Previous French Market: 24 September 2011
The French Market in Bloemfontein consist of various "French" products like olives, cheese, wine, designers clothings, jewellery, paintings, bath products and various confectionery. Various musician entertains you during the day with lovely typical french music and instrument. The market is aimed for family entertainment - so everybody is welcome including dogs.
The market , "le marché", is an integral part of life in virtually all French towns and large villages, so much so that even today the market can be seen as a well-surviving part of France's historic heritage. The market, as a source of fresh food or homemade products is an integral part of France's famed tradition of good eating, and is one of those French traditions that never will die.
As with traditional French Markets – you can also buy food being prepared in traditional French Method, superb coffees and various French Desert dishes or sweets. The focus is still on typical fresh or homemade produce – such as cheese, fruit, sausage, meat, bread, vegetables, fish, flowers, garden plants, local specialities - honey, jam, olives in their own special mix of oils and spices. French markets are not, however, only about food. Here you can get various other products from lotions, handmade soaps, perfumes, handbags, jewellery, cushions and other interior decorations as well as a wide variety of fashion items.
At the Villa Avianto French Market only traditional French Music is played (performed by Arco Musica) and we ring the bell as per the age-old French tradition to tell visitors that the French Market is now open for business. Villa Avianto’s French Market has grown so much in popularity that we are currently planning to hold it more than once a year and we are even planning a traditional French Market for Christmas.
